Jannik Sinner has prioritised rest as he prepares to defend his US Open title next month.
The world number one has had a busy last couple of months having reached the Roland Garros final, missing three Championship points in one of the best Grand Slam finals of all time against Carlos Alcaraz.
That was followed up by earning revenge on the Spaniard in the Wimbledon final as the Italian continues to carve up his own history.
Speaking ahead of the Masters 1000 event in Cincinnati Sinner spoke about the need for resting after the last couple of months, “I’m very obviously very happy,” Sinner told the ATP website.
“I took some time off, seeing my family and friends and very important people. And after that, I got back to training, trying to be as ready as possible for this swing, which is very important too. This one was very different also because what I had the Grand Slam before, what happened there and coming back and showing this kind of level also at times surprised me too.”
During Wimbledon, Sinner was seen wearing a sleeve after injuring his elbow against Grigor Dimitrov at the event.
Despite his elbow being better the Italian is continuing his routine of wearing the sleeve, “The elbow is good. Today was the first time that I put a sleeve on because I liked the feeling of the sleeve,” Sinner explained on media day.
“It gives a little bit more impact with the ball, it’s slightly more stable. That’s my point of view and I liked it in Wimbledon. have to see how it is when it’s very hot and humid, because it’s a little bit different, so it’s going to be something that I’m going to take into consideration, but I really love the feeling it gives of pure striking.”
Sinner will start his campaign against either Vit Kopriva or Daniel Elahi Galan as the top seed prepares to defend his title.
