Dan Evans is looking to enjoy the ending of his career as he extended his winning streak in Washington to six matches.

After missing out on defending his title last year due to playing doubles with Andy Murray at the Olympics, Dan Evans is back to winning ways in Washington.

The Brit defeated Zizou Bergs in three sets in an edgy contest to reach the second round and continue his form from 2023 when he won the title.

After the match Evans spoke about how tough it is to win matches on the tour and how he is looking to embrace the ending of his career, “I’ve always said even when I was solidified in the Top 30, Top 40, that winning on this Tour is never easy,” Evans told the ATP website.

“The best part about winning on the Tour is now going to the bike to warm down and be with the people who work with you day in and day out. Sometimes we take it for granted, but the last year — or two years — has been difficult and I definitely enjoy it and cherish it every moment I get on these courts because it’s coming towards the end of my career, there’s no hiding from that.”

Evans had a successful grass court season scoring wins over Frances Tiafoe and Tommy Paul in the build-up to Wimbledon.

Now Evans is aiming to continue the momentum into the US hard court season as he seeks a return to the world’s top 100.

Next up for Evans will be Alex Michelsen in the second round in Washington on Tuesday.
