Taylor Fritz has continued his dream start to the grass season with a straight-sets victory over Alexander Zverev to win the Boss Open in Stuttgart.

The American world No.7 rallied to a 6-3, 7-6(0), win over the home favorite to claim his first piece of silverware this season. Fritz has become the first player in 2025 to win an ATP event without getting broken in any of his matches. Against Zverev, he won 88% of his first service points and produced a total of 18 winners.

Fritz’s triumph comes after what was a lacklustre clay swing for the 27-year-old, who suffered a first round loss at the French Open. Coming into Stuttgart, he had failed to win back-to-back matches at three consecutive tournaments.

“I’m really happy, especially as it was not too great of a clay season. And then from that place to come here and start the grass season off perfectly, I am super happy to win the title and do it here,” said Fritz.

It is the fourth time Friz has won a grass title on the Tour. His other trophies won were all at the Eastbourne Open in 2019, 2022 and 2024. It is only the second time he has beaten a top-10 player on the surface, after Wimbledon last year when he also defeated Zverev.

Meanwhile, Zverev’s hunt for a first grass-court title continues. The last top 10 player he defeated on grass was Roger Federer in Halle nine years ago.

“Taylor, you are one of the best in the world on grass and you were much better than me today,” said Zverev.

“I couldn’t be happier to play here. It was a wonderful week. My first final on grass in eight years.”

Zverev has suffered five consecutive losses against Fritz. The only other players to achieve this streak against him are Rafael Nadal, Stefanos Tsitsipas and Daniil Medvedev.

Fritz will return to fourth position in the PIF ATP rankings on Monday. He will next travel to London to play at Queen’s where he is scheduled to play his opening doubles match on Monday alongside Jiri Lehecka.
