Matteo Berrettini came back from one set down in his 6-3 6-4 win over Luciano Darderi in 1 hour and 17 minutes in the all-Italian first round match to reach the second round at the Nordic Open in Stockolm. Berrettini won 89% of his first serve points.
Darderi broke serve in the fifth game to 3-2 lead. Berrettini broke straight back to draw level to 3-3. Berrettini held serve at deuce before breaking serve in the 10th game to win the first set 6-4.
Berrettini went up a break in the second game to take a 2-0 lead. The 2021 Wimbledon finalist held on his next service games and served out the win on his first match point.
Berrettini set up a second round match against Dominik Stricker.
Lorenzo Sonego edged past Marc Andrea Huesler 7-6 (7-1) 7-5. Both players held on serve with no break points en route to the tie-break. Sonego earned three mini-breaks to win the tie-break 7-1. Sonego saved a break point in the fourth game to hold serve at deuce. The second set went on serve until the 11th game when Sonego earned the only break of the match. He served out the win on his first match point.
Tallon Griekspoor cruised past Pavel Kotov 6-4 6-3 in 1 hour and 12 minutes to draw level to 2-2 in his four head-to-head series against his Russian opponent. Grielspoor improved to 9-2 in opening round matches on hard court.
Griekspoor broke serve in the fourth game to take a 3-1 lead. Kotov broke straight back to love in the fifth game and saved two break pomts to hold serve at deuce to draw level to 3-3. Griekspoor broke again on his second set point to win the first set 6-4. Griekspoor went up a break in the fourth game of the second set to take a 3-1 lead. The Dutch player served out the win on his second match point.
