Stefanos Tsitsipas saw off Daniel Evans 6-3 6-4 in 80 minutes with a break in the opening game of each set to advance to the third round at the Paris Rolex Masters. Tsitsipas, who reached the semifinal in Paris Bercy in 2019, recorded a world-leading 58th win of the season. Tsitsipas hit 28 winners, including eight aces.
Tsitsipas now leads 4-0 in his head-to-head matches against Evans.
Tsitsipas was forced to retire from his second round match against Alexei Popyrin one year ago.
“I was looking forward to going out there and playing a proper match. I have not great memories from last year, but I was trying to give it another go this year. I am pleased with the level of tennis I brought when I had to and it was a great start”, said Tsitsipas.
Lorenzo Musetti beat Nikoloz Basilashvili 6-4 6-2 after 1 hour and 11 minutes.
Musetti earned the first break point in the ninth game to take a 5-4 lead and served out the first set 6-4 with a hold at love.
Musetti went up a 3-0 lead with a double break at the start of the second set. Basilashvili pulled one break back in the fourth game to close the gap to 1-3, but Musetti broke for the third time to open up a 4-1 lead and held his final two service games to win the second set 6-2.
