Andrey Rublev came back from one set down to beat 20-year-old British player Jack Draper 2-6 6-4 7-5 in 2 hours and 21 minutes at the Madrid Mutua Open.
Draper, who was playing only his fifth match at Masters 1000 level, earned two breaks in the second and eighth games to take a 6-2 lead.
Rublev earned a first break in the first game of the second set and converted it with a forehand. Draper broke back in the sixth game to draw level to 3-3. Rublev converted his third break point in the ninth game before serving it out to send the second set to the decisive set.
Draper raced out to a 3-0 lead with a break in the second game of the third set. Rublev broke back in the fifth game before earning a decisive break on his third opportunity in the 11th game to seal the third set 7-5. Rublev closed out the match in the next game to secure his spot in the third round where he could meet another British player Daniel Evans.
Draper was handed a wild card into the main draw and upset Lorenzo Sonego with a straight-set win.
