Novak Djokovic will be chasing his first ATP Tour title in 2022 in front of his home fans in Belgrade. Djokovic triumphed at the Serbia Open in 2009 and 2011 and in the Belgrade event, when the ATP 250 tournament had a single-year licence.
Djokovic will try to bounce back from his defeat against Davidovich Fokina. The Serbian player will face either Hamad Medjedovic or Laslo Djere in his opening match.
Dominic Thiem will make his come-back on the ATP Tour after being sidelined by a wrist injury in June 2021. The two-time Roland Garros finalist and 2020 US Open champion will open his campaign against John Millman.
Thiem could meet Djokovic in a potential quarter final match. Djokovic leads 7-5 in his 12 head-to-head maches against Thiem and beat his Austrian rival in five sets in the Australian Open final in 2020.
Andrey Rublev will make his debut in Belgrade. The Russian player won back-to-back titles in Dubai and Marseille last February and reached the semifinals in Rotterdam and Indian Wells.
Danish Next Gen player Holger Rune made his breakthrough last week in Monte-Carlo when he beat Aslan Karatsev before losing to Ruud 7-6 (7-5) 7-5 in a tight match.
Second seeds Simone Bolelli and Fabio Fognini will chase their second ATP Tour doubles title after beating Jamie Murray and Bruno Soares in Rio de Janeiro. The Italian doubles team lost to Joe Salisbury and Rajeev Ram in the quarter final at the Australian Open.
The Australian team formed by Matthew Ebden and Max Purcell will make their return to the court since they won the Houston title two weeks ago.
