New tournament director Amelie Mauresmo gave an update ahead of the second grand slam of the year.
Roland Garros will start on the 23rd of May and will end on the 5th of June with the tournament being the second grand slam of the year.
In the press conference ahead of the tournament Mauresmo told the press that will be 10 night sessions starting on the 23rd of May with the final one being on the 1st of June with the night session starting at 9pm local time.
Furthermore as announced by all the grand slams this year there will be a trial period where they will test all grand slam events having a ten point tiebreak to decide the winner of the match in the final set.
Before the change Roland Garros had no tiebreak while Wimbledon had a tiebreak at 12-12 and the US Open had a traditional tiebreak to decide the winner.
They also addressed COVID rules as well as the ongoing issue surrounding Russian and Belarusian athletes as a result of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
As it stands players like Novak Djokovic will be allowed to play Roland Garros even if they are unvaccinated. However these are subject to change as COVID rules are a flexible situation.
In addition athletes from Russia and Belarus will be allowed to compete at Roland Garros however they will not represent their country under their own flag.
The entry list deadline for Roland Garros will be the 11th of April with the defending champions being Novak Djokovic and Barbora Krejcikova.
