World number 309 Jack Draper upset 2019 ATP Next Gen champion Jannik Sinner 7-6 (8-6) 7.-6 (7-2) at the Queen’s to claim the first win of his career on the ATP Tour.
Sinner earned two consecutive breaks to cruise to a 4-0 lead in the opening set, but he wasted six game points. Draper pulled one break back in the fifth game for 1-4. The British player broke serve for the second time to draw level to 5-5. Both players held on their next service games en route to the tie-break. Sinner earned two set points at 6-4, but Draper won four consecutive points to claim the tie-break 8-6.
Sinner broke serve at 30 in the seventh game to take a 4-3 lead. Draper broke back in the 10th game to draw level to 5-5, as Sinner was serving for the match. Draper sealed the tie-break 7-2 on his first match point. “I thought I had no chance of beating Jannik today. I got off to a slow start. Once I won a couple of games, I progressed from there. I I am just glad I was able to play well against such a grreat like Jannik. He is top 20, way ahead of me. It’s great to beat him on this court”, said Draper.
