The tournament management of the Noventi Open in Halle has announced that the German grass tournament will be held behind closed doors in 2021 due to the covid-19 pandemic.
Many European countries have been dealing with rising covid-19 cases. According to tournament officials the decision was the best available option to ensure players safety.
However, the organizers have announced that Roger Federer will play in Halle in the next two editions in 2021 and 2022.
Federer holds a record ten titles in Halle in 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2008, 2013, 204, 2015, 2017 and 2019 and used Halle as a springboard for success at Wimbledon. This yeat the Swiss legend will bid to win his 21st career Grand Slam title. The ATP 500 tournament will also feature 2020 ATP Finals champin Danil Medvedev, 2021 Rotterdam winner Andrey Rublev, 2019 Wimbledon semifinalist and 2021 Doha finalist Roberto Bautista Agut, 2014 US Open finalist Kei Nishikori, 2017 ATP Finals runner-up David Goffin and 2018 Paris Bercy Karen Khachanov.
