The world number 23 beat his good friend and fellow Aussie in straight sets to advance past round one.
Alex De Minaur is into the next round of the ABN AMRO World Tennis Tournament in Rotterdam being hosted at the Ahoy conference center by beating his good mate and fellow Aussie John Millman in straight sets 6-4 and 6-1. The world number 23 hit 20 winners while the Brisbane, Australia native hit 23 unforced errors in the match.
De Minaur off to a flying start
After both players held their opening service games the world number 23 went to work and earned two breakpoints on Millman serve before eventually breaking to take an early 2-1 lead.
After consolidating the break De Minaur had more chances to get a double break and did just that as the world number 39 sent a ball long to make it 4-1 for the Sydney, Australia native.
He would take the set 6-1 breaking for a third time Millmans serve as he hit another unforced error.
De Minaur battles to the finish
The world number 23 took the momentum of winning the first set and in the second set continued his dominant play and after holding serve in the opening game broke Millman’s serve with his ferocious forehand to take an early 2-0 lead.
De Minuar found himself up 4-0 before the match ultimately was turned on it’s head by Millman who managed to wake up and start playing some great tennis and managed to win four straight games off the trot and we found ourselves in a tight second set battle.
Despite his efforts at 5-4 serving to stay in the match the world number 39 found himself facing a match point and De Minaur would win the match when Millman would hit one of his 23 unforced errors in the match.
Alex De Minaur will now face Kei Nishikori who beat Felix Auger Aliassime in the next round.
