Guido Pella said that he may not return to the ATP Tour, once the ATP Tour resumes after the end of the coronavirus pandemic. The Argentine player was diagnosed with Morton’s neuroma and he will be sidelined indefinitely.

Pella was struck with a health problem after enjoying the best year of his career. In 2019 he earned his career-high 36 wins and achieved career-high number 20 in the ATP Rankings on 19th August. He did not drop a set en route to winning his first ATP Tour title in Sao Paulo.

Last year Pella reached his first Grand Slam quarter final at Wimbledon before losing to Roberto Bautista Agut. In Monte-Carlo he lost to Rafael Nadal in his first Masters 1000 quarter final. Pella also reached two ATP 250 semifinals in Buenos Aires and Los Cabos.

In 2020 Pella advanced to the Australian Open third round for the first time and went 2-2 to help Argentina reach the Final 8 at the inaugural ATP Cup. He won just one of his four matches during the Golden Swing on clay and withdrew from Santiago de Chile. He lost in the quarter final against Juan Ignacio Londero in Buenos Aires.

“I don’t know if this pandemic isn’t the end of my career. At the moment everything is uncertain. I don’t know if I will return to the court and I feel pain in six months, when I return to competitions on the circuit. I cannot predict what will happen in the future. Let’s see what happens in training. I will take a step-by-step approach”, said Guido Pella.

Pella is not optimistic that tennis will resume this year.

“I don’t think tennis will resume this year. There are a lot of risks of being infected by the virus involving travels around the world”, said Pella.
