Stan Wawrinka said in an interview with the Swiss Romande Television that he is missing the emotions of playing on the ATP Tour and the support from the fans.

“I miss the whole process of getting to the top of a match o a final and the support of fans. Given the difficulties in today’s world, I took advantage of being able to stay at home a bit and spend time with my daughter”, said Wawrinka.

Wawrinka is not optimistc that the tennis season will resume this summer.

“It’s clear that the Tour will not resume next August. I have big doubts on the US Open and the final part of the season”, said Wawrinka.

The three-time Grand Slam champion made a successful come-back in 2019 after a left knee injury reaching two finals in Rotterdam and Antwerp. The Swiss player beat Stefanos Tsitsipas in five sets after defeating Stefanos Tsitsipas 8-6 in the fifth set after 5 hours and 9 minutes. He beat fellow former world number 3 Grigor Dimitrov in Roland Garros third round in three tie-breaks for his 500th career win. Wawrinka is now ranked world number 17.

This year Wawrinka beat Andreas Seppi and Danil Medvedev in five sets to reach the quarter finals at the Australian Open before losing to Alexander Zverev.

Wawrinka spoke about his interactions with fans on the social media and the live sessions with his friend Benoit Paire during the lockdown. Wawrinka has been one of the most active players during the quarantine period.

“I tried to entertain in relation to my life, to the fans I have and to bring another vision of what I was doing. I am lucky to have friends on the Tour like Benoit Paire. We know that when we talk, we do it honestly and it allowed people to discover our slightly different personalities. We are honest in what we say and we can do. I always liked to show different things, the fans see us playing. They don’t know what we do outside. We were able to take a step back and give another facet”.
