Carla Suarez Navarro and Kevin Anderson have ended their 2019 seasons early due to injury.

In a frustrating season for both players, Carla Suarez Navarro and Kevin Anderson have decided to end their 2019 season early in order to recover for the 2020 season.

A back injury is what has sidelined Suarez Navarro for the rest of the year having suffered the injury during her first round match at the US Open.

The incident saw the Spaniard rather controversially get fined 40,000 dollars for not putting in the required amount of effort during the contest, a ruling she has appealed.

Now Suarez Navarro has taken to Twitter to reveal she is having the rest of the year off, “I must finish 2019 sooner than expected,” Suarez Navarro said in Spanish.

“The back problems have not allowed me to meet my goals. It is time to do rehabilitation, charge energy and return with enthusiasm in 2020. Always grateful for the love and support received!”

The 31 year-old from Barcelona ended the season with 18 wins and 18 losses as she is set to end the season outside the world’s top 50.

Meanwhile two-time grand slam finalist Kevin Anderson has also decided to end his season early having only played five tournaments this year.

Although it was a good start to the year for the South African winning the title in Pune, a number of injuries have seen him struggle with his health.

The announcement means he will now miss the Laver Cup in Geneva for Team World, which starts a week on Friday.
