WIMBLEDON: Former world No.1 Serena Williams has refrained from going into details about what triggered a $10,000 fine being issued to her at Wimbledon.

The 37-year-old was handed the penalty for allegedly damaging one of the practice courts during a session that took place prior to the start of the tournament. It is a substantial fine when compared to some other players. Fabio Fognini was docked $3000 for saying Wimbledon should be bombed during a match. Meanwhile, Nick Kyrgips received two separate fines for unsportsmanlike conduct that amounted to $11,500.

“I haven’t really thought about it, to be honest. I was just focused on my match today.” Williams replied when asked when she was surprised about the punishment she received.

Reluctantly speaking about the incident following her semi-final win over Alison Riske, Williams indicated that she is somewhat baffled by the value of her fine.

“I just threw my racquet. I got fined.” She said.
“I guess if you could tell me (what cost $10,000), I would appreciate it.’
“I mean, I have always been an Avenger in my heart. Maybe I’m super strong, I don’t know.”

At The All England Club, the American is through to her 37th grand slam final. Matching Germany’s Steffi Graf on the all-time list. Now in the later stages of her career, Williams admits she feels less pressure than in the past. At Wimbledon, she is bidding to claim a 24th major title and equal the benchmark set by Margaret Court.

“I definitely feel a lot more pressure as I got older. Now that I am past older, I feel a little bit less pressure” She explained.
“Now it’s like I’ve done everything I need to do. Like, I’ve had a great career, so I don’t feel the pressure as much anymore.” She added.

Williams will play her semi-final match on Thursday. She is required to reach the final this year in order to retain her position in the top 10 in the WTA rankings.
