The early awaited return of Andy Murray to professional tennis is likely to take place later this month at The Fever-Tree Championships.

Murray, who hasn’t played a match since his loss in the first round of the Australian Open in January, has been included in the list of players for the doubles tournament. Where he plans to team up with Spain’s Feliciano Lopez, who won the singles title back in 2017. The news was first reported by journalist Michal Samulski on Twitter.

Whilst there is yet to be any official confirmation, Murray’s mother Judy has commented. When asked on Twitter if she was excited by the news, she replied ‘off the charts.’ Suggesting a Murray return is definitely on the cards.

The 32-year-old has only been able to feature in eight tournaments since Wimbledon 2017 due to a troublesome hip injury. Earlier this year, he underwent hip resurfacing surgery in an attempt to prolong his career. Murray also underwent a operation in the region back in January 2018.

During a recent interview with The Times, Murray had hinted that he may return to the grass to play in doubles. Saying that he is not fit enough at present to contest singles matches. The Brit hasn’t played in the doubles tournament of a grand slam since the 2008 US Open.

“I would say there is very little chance I would play singles during the grass [season]. Potentially doubles, but I’m not trying to get ready for singles just now.” Murray told The Times.

Murray also recently uploaded a video of him practising serving on a grass-court. In the video he was wearing a special sports vest, which measures heart rate and how far you have ran.

There is yet to be any official confirmation from either Murray or the organisers of the Queen’s tournament. However, he does have a deal to play there for the rest of his career. Unless he is injured or ill.

The Fever-Tree Championships will start on June 16th. Murray has won the tournament a record five times.
