Dominic Thiem reached the Quarter-Finals at Roland Garros for the fourth consecutive year with a 6-4 6-4 6-2 win over Gael Monfils.
An impressive performance from the Austrian, who reached the last eight for a fourth year in a row as he searches for his first grand slam.
After a slow start, Monfils never really got going as the French charge in the singles at Roland Garros ended before the last eight.
Next for Thiem will be either Karen Khachanov or Juan Martin Del Potro.
It was an abysmal start from Monfils, who simply did not turn up for the first 25 minutes as four double faults contributed to a double break deficit.
As the Frenchman started slowly, Thiem started with confidence as he hit with brute power on the backhand side, working the angles.
The 14th seed did manage to relax at 5-1 down though as he managed to add depth on the forehand side and produced a good return game.
Despite managing to get one of the breaks back, Monfils couldn’t return the Austrian’s irresistible serve as he held to love to seal the first set.
In the second set, Monfils managed to dictate points from his first serve as he used the forehand to try and power past the Austrian.
Even though it was a better start for the Frenchman, Thiem still managed to rush his opponent’s shots as his forehand just had too much pace and power.
A drop in level from Monfils allowed last year’s finalist to win four points in a row to seal the crucial break in the ninth game.
Another hold to love sealed a two set lead for Thiem as he was silencing the French crowd on Chatrier.
Both players had chances to break in the third set with Monfils finally finding himself in a position to try and take a break lead.
But it was to no reward unfortunately for the 32 year-old as he was broken in the third game, which included one of the shots of the tournament from Thiem.

There was so much control from the Austrian in the third set in one of his best matches of Roland Garros so far as he dominated with his forehand.
Despite Monfils trying his hardest to prevent the inevitable, Thiem secured a second break of the set and secured his place in the Quarter-Finals of Roland Garros.
It was job well done for last year’s finalist as for the first time this tournament he failed to drop a set in a match as he looks for a maiden grand slam.
Next for Thiem is either Karen Khachanov or Juan Martin Del Potro in the last eight.
