Croatia is a win away from their second Davis Cup title after a one-sided performance on the first day of their tie against France in Lille. Both Borna Coric and Marin Cilic enjoyed straight sets victories. Coric dismissed French world No.40 Jeremy Chardy 6-2, 7-5, 6-4, before compatriot Marin Cilic achieved an almost identical score over Jo-Wilfried Tsonga. Prevailing 6-3, 7-5, 6-4. Croatia now need to win one out of the three remaining matches to claim the title.
This year’s Davis Cup final is the last taking place in its current format before it is transformed into a 18-team week-long competition. A decision that has angered some among the French camp, as well as others.
