“I am sorry to see Mikael go but I would like to thank him for his work and dedication. We have achieved some great things together. For time time being, I will take some time to reflect on the situation and consult with my team regarding next steps.” Monfils said is a statement.

46-year-old Tillström is a former professional player. Achieving a ranking high of 39th in the singles and 15th in the doubles. He claimed one ATP title (in singles) during his career at the 1997 Chennai Open. Tillström has been named head of sports at the Good To Great Tennis Academy in Stockholm. An academy he founded in partnership with Magnus Norman and Nicklas Kulti.

“I truly enjoyed my time with Gael who is an unbelievable player but more importantly a great person.” The Swede said in a statement. “We will remain close friends and I wish him all the best for the rest of his career.”

So far this season, 31-year-old Monfils has won 16 out of 27 matches played on the tour. Next month he will be bidding to reach the fourth round at the Wimbledon Championships for the first time in his career.
