Former top 50 player, Dan Evans has continued his grass court momentum in Nottingham this week after reaching the quarter-finals.
The world number 530 has looked impressive since returning from his one year drug ban as he made the semi-finals at the Surbiton challenger last week after qualifying for the event. The controversial Brit lost to eventual champion Jeremy Chardy in the last four and as a result of his good performance last week, he took a special exempt into the Nottingham challenger this week.
The 28 year old has taken advantage of his latest opportunity as back to back wins have seen him into the last eight, where he will face Brayden Schnur on Friday morning. After his win over 7th seed Sergiy Stakhovsky on Wednesday, Evans spoke about playing in front of his home crowd, “I love playing in front of home crowds. Especially after not playing for a while, it’s good to get some matches under my belt again and hopefully I can go a bit further this week,” stated Evans. “The crowd were great. It’s close to home and I know pretty much everybody here, even the groundsman.”
The Brit will look to continue his good form as he awaits his fate on whether he will receive a main draw or qualifying wildcard at Wimbledon this year. The former world number 41 is also joined by James Ward in the quarter-finals, who has been on a breakthrough run himself. The 31 year old reached the Loughborough challenger final last month on the hard courts and has transferred his good form into Nottingham this week.
