Australian Open champion Caroline Wozniacki cruised into the fourth round of the French Open on Friday with a 6-0, 6-3 thrashing of Pauline Parmentier of France.
The 2nd seed began the match from where she left off in her previous round encounter, winning the opening set 6-0 in just 21 minutes. The Dane seemed to be in a hurry as she completely bossed the set from start to finish. Showing her trademark defense, she drew errors at will from her opponent, gaining an immediate advantage for a 2-0 lead.
While she was holding her serve with the minimum of fuss, Parmentier was unable to find any sort of rhythm on her serve. Wozniacki continued to force her challenger to go for some extremely difficult winners and it paid rich dividends as she coasted to a 4-0 lead in just 15 minutes. Within a blink of an eye, she made it 5-0 before sealing the deal with a fantastic crosscourt winner.
The Frenchwoman made a slightly better start to the second set as she hit a down the line forehand winner to earn double break point, but Wozniacki saved both of them to win her seventh game in a row. The Odense native then stretched her run to eight successive games as she broke once again in the next game. Wozniacki continued to completely outclass Pauline as her deceptive strokes and her ability to change the direction and the pace of the ball was indeed making it tougher and tougher for the local girl.
The former World No. 1 was pushed to deuce for the first time in the match, but managed to consolidate her lead to 3-0 after the initial jitters. Wozniacki was barely missing her shots, while Parmentier’s erratic play continued to haunt her. She was broken again as the lady from Denmark captured her 10th game in succession.
Parmentier finally got on the board in the 11th game of set No. 2 as she avoided the double bagel. Serving for the match, Wozniacki faltered in the next game to lose two games in a contest for the first time since her opening round triumph. Even though Parmentier held her serve to make it 5-3, Wozniacki quickly made amends to her game to claim an emphatic victory in an hour and 18 minutes.
