World No.44 Robin Haase has criticised a Physio at the French Open following his five-set loss to David Goffin on Sunday.

The 28-year-old was two-sets-to-love up against the world No.9, but ended up losing the match 4-6, 4-6, 6-4, 6-1, 6-0. During the evening encounter, Haase complained about the light at Roland Garros. Arguing that he couldn’t see the ball properly. Although there was no such complaint from Goffin as the match continued. Prompting the Dutchman to claim that his opponent was given an unfair advantage.

“I hoped and expected that the game would be finished on Monday, after two sets it was already dark, and after the third set I thought: now we’ll stop,” Haase told foxsports.nl.
“In the end, we just finished the match, which was unfavourable for me, I had more trouble with it than Goffin.”

Amid the complaint, Haase requested a medical time out during the end of the fourth set. Citing a problem with his leg. The trainer refused to treat Haase. Saying that there was no issue to address. A verdict that the match umpire also supported. The conclusion sparked allegations that Haase deliberately faked an injury in order to delay the match. Hoping that it would get postponed. An allegation he has denied.

Following his defeat, Haase said that he had previously requested not to be treated by that trainer because he had ‘problems’ with him during the US Open. But didn’t elaborate further on the matter.

“He refused to treat me,” he said. “I have avoided him in recent years because he did not want to treat me at the US Open (as well).”

Speaking about Goffin turnaround, where he claimed 12 out of the last 13 games played, the former top 35 player said that he was too ‘restless’ to close the match out.

“I was hoping to hold on to it, but I certainly did not succeed in the fourth set, because I was too restless in the fifth set, but I did not have a chance.” He explained.

It is unclear as to what the exact nature of the injury was. Haase will remain in Roland Garros to play in the doubles draw, where he will play alongside compatriot Matwé Middelkoop.
