Nick Kyrgios has withdrawn from Estoril and Madrid as his elbow injury continues to halt his season.
The Australian suffered the injury during Australia’s first round Davis Cup defeat to Germany in Brisbane in January. Since then he has only played two tournaments and revealed that he has been diagnosed with posterior impingement and ulnar nerve irritation. Now today he revealed that he cannot play through the illness and has had to withdraw from Estoril and Madrid.
In his statement he apologised especially to the Portuguese fans who he plays in front of on almost a yearly basis and revealed that he has had to have a cortisone injection, which has forced him out of those tournaments. You can see his statement below:

As it stands, Kyrgios has arrived in Canberra ahead of his treatment and plans to play in Rome and the second grand slam of the year at Roland Garros. However it wouldn’t surprise anybody if the Aussie abandoned the clay court season in favour for his beloved grass court season in order to prepare for Wimbledon.
