US twin brothers Mike and Bob Bryan clinched their fifth Miami doubles title and their 37th Masters 1000 trophy after beating a young Russian team formed by Andrey Rublev and Karen Khachanov 4-6 7-6(7-5) 10-4 at Crandon Park.
Mike and Bob Bryan have won their biggest title since Rome 2016 and their first trophy since Atlanta 2017. They finished runner-up to another US team formed by Jack Sock and John Isnet in the Indian Wells final earlier this month. Previously they had also lost the Acapulco final.
Rublev got an early break when he smashed a forehand in the first game of the opening set. The Russian team held on their serve to close out the opening set by 6-4 on the third set point.
Rublev and Khachanov rallied from one break down to force the second set to the tie-break. Mike Bryan sealed the set on the second set point in the tie-break. The Bryan brothers opened up a 3-0 in the match tie-break and never looked back on their serve to close out the match tie-break by 10-4 to the delight of the home crowd. The Bryan brothers won 85 % of their first serve points.
Khachanov and Rublev were playing as a team for the first time this season.
Khachanov was the first to congratulate with the Bryan brothers after the match.
“When we were 10 years old, we were watching them play. They were one of the best, they were winning everything. Now they are still among the best doubles teams, and I can say that they are in good shape. We really enjoyed playing against you guys. Well done, well deserved”, said Khanchanov.
