Alexander Zverev is into the semi-finals of the Miami Open following a straightforward 6-4 6-4 victory over Borna Coric on a balmy evening here in Key Biscayne.

Miami Open 2018 - Day 11

He came into the match with a 0-2 head to head record against the Croat, but today he was simply the better player in every respect. He broke the Coric serve in the fifth game of the opening set with a forehand smash into the open court, and closed out the set on serve in just 36 minutes.

Coric was under pressure on his delivery repeatedly in the second set, saving two break points in the third and the seventh games, before the German finally broke in the ninth game when Coric went long on the backhand.

Zverev closed out the match without any problems in the next game, wrapping up the 84 minute contest at a canter.

“I think we played one time in Cincinnati when he was just better than me, ranking wise he was better and he was a year older, so nothing special about that one. And at the US Open I played bad. I didn’t play well and he played a phenomenal match and that was the outcome”, Zverev said concerning his record against Coric coming into the match. “He is someone who doesn’t miss much and you have to win every single point against him and that’s what I did tonight and I’m very happy with it.”

Zverev, who converted 2 out of 8 break points and served 8 aces, will face Pablo Carreno Busta in the semi-finals.
