World number 7 David Goffin suffered another bizarre injury as he withdrew due to an eye injury during his Rotterdam Semi-Final with Grigor Dimitrov.
The Belgian had suffered the bizarre injury in the second set of his Semi-Final against Dimitrov. The Bulgarian had grabbed the first set 6-3 after breaking Goffin in the fourth game and then holding a 19 point game to close out the set.
However in the second game of the second set a sliced backhand volley from Goffin ended up in his own face and stunned the Belgian. Goffin was holding his eye and went off court for some treatment before the umpire announcing to the Dutch crowd and a surprised that the match had finished. Here is the incident in full:

The incident is the second freak injury within the last 12 months for the Belgian after he twisted his ankle on the tarp at the 2017 French Open. It is such a shame for Goffin considering the level of tennis that was on show in the Semi-Final today. Hopefully Goffin can return as soon as possible as he is in the draw for next week’s tournament in Marseille.
However for Dimitrov he can showcase his consistent form in tomorrow’s final, where he will play either play Andreas Seppi or the new world number one, Roger Federer.
