Roger Federer may be into his 37th year, but that doesn’t seem to be slowing the Swiss legend down. The right-hander spoke about his thoughts on the upcoming 2018 season.

Federer: “Coming off the back of this season is already so exciting, I just can’t wait to come back to all the tournaments I played so well this year, you know. This year was so surprising in so many ways that I Just Hope I can play well again in Australia, do well again at Wimbledon.”

Federer had an excellent comeback season in 2017. After missing much of the 2016 season due to knee surgery, the Swiss came back and won the Australian Open for the first time since 2010. He then added two Masters 1000 titles in Indian Wells and Miami.

Opting to skip the clay season seemed like a good move as his friend and rival Rafael Nadal largely cleaned up on his favourite surface. Federer then took another title in Halle, before winning Wimbledon for a record 8th time. He closed the season by winning once again in Basel, and reaching the semi-finals at the Nitto ATP Finals.

Federer will start the year ranked No.2 close behind Rafael Nadal. Both men will be defending a number of points at the year’s first slam. A number of rivals will likely be returning from injury. These include Novak Djokovic, Andy Murray, Stan Wawrinka, Kei Nishikori, Milos Raonic, Nick Kyrgios, Tomas Berdych, and Gael Monfils. It all looks set for the 2018 Australian Open to provide some of the most intriguing story lines of recent years.
