As Andy Murray hosted his annual charity night on Tuesday, little did we know that the former world No.1 had become a father for the second time.
Multiple reports have confirmed that Murray’s wife, Kim Sears, has given birth to a baby girl. It is unclear as to what day the baby was born on, but The Times have reported the birth as occurring last week. The couple welcomed the arrival of their first child in February 2016. A girl called Sophia Olivia.
There has been no official comment from Murray, who played Roger Federer in an charity exhibition match at the Hydro Arena in Glasgow yesterday. His grandmother, Shirley Erskine, has told Heart Scotland that ‘all is well’ with mother and baby.
“We’re absolutely delighted. Another little girl, a little sister for Sophia.” She said.
Murray is currently absent from the tour due to a hip injury. His match against Federer was his first since the Wimbledon quarter-finals. The 30-year-old is hoping to return to action at the start of next year ahead of the Australian Open. Although he has expressed caution concerning a return date.
“My hip felt pretty good. Not perfect yet, but it is going in the right direction.” Said Murray.
When he does start his comeback, the three-time grand slam champion is confident that he can return back to the top and challenge for the big titles. Due to his absence, Murray dropped out of the world’s top 10 on Monday for the first time since October 2014.
“I believe I will, yes. You never know how you’re going to come back from injuries, but I have been hitting the ball very well in practice.” He explained.
“I can’t say for certain, but I think I’ll be able to come back just fine.”
The Andy Murray Live event raised money for charities Uniced and Sunny-sid3up.
