After winning just two singles matches since the French Open, Eugenie Bouchard has been ditched by her coached according to media sources.
A report by tenns.life has revealed that the former Wimbledon finalist is no longer working with Swedish coach Thomas Hogstedt. Hogstedt is a renowned figure on the women’s tour with a wealth of experience. Besides his two stints with Bouchard, he has also worked with Li Na, Caroline Wozniacki and Madison Keys.
To make thing worse for the Canadian, who is at her lowest ranking position since May 2013, Hogstedt is also rumoured to already be working with another player. Ekaterina Makarova is said to be the latest player being mentored by the 53-year-old. The Russian world No.35 recently collaborated with Nigel Sears during the US Open, however, they both stated that it was only for a ‘short term’ period.
Bouchard hasn’t played a match on the tour since her first round loss at the US Open. Shortly after her exit from the final grand slam of the year, the former world No.5 admitted that she is suffering from confidence issues. Overall, Bouchard has only managed to win 13 matches in 18 tournaments played so far this year.
“My confidence is not high at all at this point in time and I definitely had question marks about what my level would be like coming out today,’’ she said on August 30th after her US Open defeat.
Last week Bouchard withdrew from a WTA event in her home country due to illness and has also decided to skip next week’s Wuhan Open, which is a Premier 5 event.
There has been no official comment from the 23-year-old regarding either her team or future plans. Coincidentally, on Tuesday organisers of the Hong Kong Open confirmed that Bouchard has committed to play in their event next month.
