Veteran Spaniard and former Roland Garros runner-up David Ferrer will miss the Kitzbuhel event after suffering an injury. “I played a couple of matches in a row and I am dealing with an inflammation of the Achilles tendon”.
It sounds as if the injury will not keep the former World no.3 out of the game for too long. Ferrer has slid down the rankings this year as a result of a poor run of form that included a second round exit at Roland Garros.
Ferrer returned to some form by winning the Bastad tournament, but then lost to Federico Delbonis in the second round of Hamburg.
Ferrer is still committed to playing the North American hard court swing, with culminates with the year’s final grand slam tournament at the US Open at Flushing Meadows in New York City.
