Young Canadian starlet Denis Shapovalov has had a great week in his attempts to feature at the inaugural ATP Next Gen Finals in Milan at the end of the season. The left-hander, 18, is into the final of the Gatineau Challenger and will face compatriot Peter Polansky.
Shapovalov currently sits at No.14 in the battle to feature amongst eligible players. The seven players under the age of 21 that accumulate the most ATP points over the course of the season will qualify, whilst the final position will be a wildcard entrant.
Shapovalov could move as high as 11th in the Race for Milan, with the prize of 80 ATP points on offer for the winner of the tournament. Shapovalov has already reached the fEinals of two Challengers this season. He won his inaugural Challenger title in Drummondville, before losing in Guadalajara to Mirza Basic. Polansky is the defending champion at the event.
Egor Gerasimov defeated Mikhail Kukushkin for the Astana title 7-6, 4-6, 6-4. Guido Andreozzi and Alexey Vatutin are playing in the Poznan final. The big-serving Gerasimov has been in excellent form across 2017, winning three of his four career Challenger titles this season. He is set to move to a new career-high ranking tomorrow.
Matteo Berrettini and Laslo Djere are scheduled to feature in the San Benedetto final, with Guillermo Garcia-Lopez and Ruben Bemelmans in The Hague Open final.
