During the day 3 of the Chengdu Open, Grigor Dimitrov reached the quarterfinals by beating Dusan Lajovic, while Troicki and Baghdatis won their first round matches.
The Bulgarian 25 year-old Dimitrov, who is the third seed of the tournament, marked a solid performance in a 7-6(1) 6-4 win on Serbia’s Dusan Lajovic, winning the 77% of service points, facing no break points, and converting one of his eight break chances in the second set. He will face either Diego Schwartzman or Paolo Lorenzi in the quarterfinals.
Sixth seeded Viktor Troicki of Serbia defeated the 17 year-old wild card Casper Ruud of Norway 6-3 7-6(4) in 1 hour and 13 minutes. The young gun Ruud had his chance in the second set, when he came back from 5-3 down and earned three consecutive set points on 6-5. But the Serbian served huge, firing 17 aces in the match, and closed the match out in the tie-break.
In the second round Troicki will face the veteran Marcos Baghdatis, who won a huge battle against Spaniard 25 year-old Pablo Carreno Busta 6-7(5) 7-6(5) 7-6(5) in 3 hours and 2 minutes of play. The match was suspended on Tuesday on 5-5 in the third set and was finished today. Baghdatis found a big start in the decising tie-break, leading 4-0, and converted his third match point on 6-5.
Also, home hope Di Wu of China beat Russia’s Konstantin Kravchuk 6-3 6-2, saving five of six break points faced and Russian 20 year-old Karen Khachanov knocked out Frenchman Adrian Mannarino 3-6 6-3 6-1. Khachanov will meet Feliciano Lopez or Juan Monaco next.
