Dominic Thiem has been forced to withdraw from next week’s Los Cabos Open in Mexico due to a hip injury.
The world No.10 has been troubled by the Injury over the past few week’s and was forced to retire in his match against Kevin Anderson at the Rogers Cup. According to Thiem’s coach, Gunther Bresnik, the exact injury is inflammation of the hip.
“Dominic has inflammation in the hip. Therefore, he is pausing for a week at least, but probably more like ten days in my view.” Bresnik recently told APA News.
The setback comes after what has been a busy start to the year for the 22-year-old. Thiem has already played in 19 ATP tournaments this season, winning titles in four of them. At the French Open he achieved his best grand slam result by reaching the semifinals. He currently has win-loss record of 48-15 on the tour this season.
Thiem’s busy season has now seemed to have taken a toll on his body. He has confirmed his withdrawal from the inaugural Los Cabos Open in Mexico and there are also doubts about his ability to play in the Cincinnati Masters according to his coach.
“We have also decided that he does not play Los Cabos,” said Bresnik
“Depending on how it goes for him in the first days of training, we will decide what to do about Cincinnati.”
The Cincinnati Masters starts on August 15th and it is the last major tournament to take place before this year’s US Open.
Recently the Austrian has experienced a series of disappointing results on the tour. Seeded eighth at Wimbledon, Thiem suffered a shock second round loss to Jiri Vesely, who defeated Novak Djokovic earlier this year. Then at his home tournament in Kitzbuhel, he crashed out in the second round to compatriot Jurgen Melzer.
