Slovakia’s Martin Klizan won his second title of the season after pulling off a 6-1 6-4 conquest of higher-ranked Pablo Cuevas to win the German Open title in Hamburg.
The seventh-seeded Klizan broke his third-seeded Uruguayan opponent twice each in both sets to emerge victorious in the 59-minute title-clash on Centre Court.
Klizan produced a dominant display on return, creating four break point chances and winning as many, in addition to winning a commendable 84 per cent of his first-serve points.
“A compliment to Pablo: you played a great week. Also, a big thank you to my coach, my friends, my brother, my parents. Thank you to all the helpers and my fan club, who have supported me wonderfully here,” said Klizan, who had also triumphed in Rotterdam earlier this season.
“This tournament is a great tournament. We’ll see you again next year,” the 27-year-old added as he walked away with the lucrative trophy besides the prize money of €316,000 and 500 ATP points.
