Seeds Pablo Cuevas and Martin Klizan pulled off routine victories over their respective semi-final opponents to set up a thrilling title-clash at the German Open in Hamburg.
While the third-seeded Cuevas clinched a 7-5 6-3 conquest of Argentine Renzo Olivo, the seventh-seeded Klizan pulled off a 6-3 6-4 victory against Frenchman Stephane Robert.
This was Cuevas’ second win in as many meetings over the 153rd-ranked Olivo. He will look to win his third title of the season on Sunday, having previously triumphed in Sao Paulo and Rio de Janerio earlier this year.
“Today I played well. Renzo (Olivo) is so fast on the court. I’m happy to be in another final this year,” Cuevas reflected on his win, as quoted by ATP World Tour.
As for Klizan, this would be his second final of the year. The Slovak southpaw had emerged victorious in Rotterdam back in February 2016.
“I’m just feeling very confident right now and I think it’s going to be a very interesting match,” he envisaged. “I’m going to enjoy it. Being in the final is a great, great feeling for me.”
The summit clash would mark the first ever meeting between the duo.
Meanwhile, in the double event, third seeds Daniel Nestor and Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi beat Guillermo Duran and Jonathan Erlich 6-4 6-1 in the semi-finals. They are scheduled to take on second seeds Henri Kontinen and John Peers in the summit clash.
