Seeds Martin Klizan and Guillermo Garcia-Lopez sealed their berths in the quarter-finals of the German Open in Hamburg after easing past their respective opponents on Thursday here.
The seventh-seeded Klizan needed just 50 minutes to trounce 17-year-old local wildcard Louis Wessels 6-1 6-1, whereas, Garcia-Lopez, the No. 8 seed, dropped just four games en route a 6-2 6-2 thrashing of little-known Slovenian Grega Zemlja 6-2 6-2.
Elsewhere, Frenchman Stephane Robert continued his quest for his first singles title on the tour as he clinched a hard-fought 7-5 4-6 6-1 conquest of Spain’s Inigo Cervantes, to set up a date with Garcia-Lopez in the last-eight stage.
The top-seeded doubles duo of Lukasz Kubot and Alexander Peya suffered a stunning 6-2 7-6 defeat to the unseeded pairing of Guillermo Duran and Jonathan Erlich in the quarter-finals.
Second seeds Henri Kontinen and John Peers, however, kept the upset bug at bay with a 6-3 6-2 victory against Leonardo Mayer and Inigo Cervantes.
