Top seed and local favorite Philipp Kohlschreiber rallied from a one-set deficit to beat Nicolas Kicker 4-6 6-1 6-2 en route the quarter-finals of the German Open in Hamburg.
After conceding a crucial break at 4-5 in the first set, the 22nd-ranked Kohlschreiber produced a near perfect performance to move past his 144th-ranked Argentine opponent in one hour and 51 minutes.
Moving on, he is slated to lock horns with little-known Renzo Olivo, who beat fellow Argentine 6-3 6-4 in the other second round encounter.
Uruguay’s Pablo Cuevas, the No. 3 seed, maintained his clean record over Thiago Monteiro of Brazil with a 6-2 6-3 win that saw him cruise into the last-eight stage.
Having beaten Monteiro in Sao Paulo and Rio de Janerio earlier this year, Cuevas bettered his record to 3-0, as he prepares to meet either Nicolas Almagro or Paul-Henri Mathieu for a place in the semi-finals.
In the doubles event, the top-seeded duo of Lukasz Kubot and Alexander Peya needed just 39 minutes to complete a 6-0 6-2 demolition of Zverev brothers, Alexander and Mischa.
