Title favourite Andy Murray have pledged to be ruthless in his Wimbledon final against Canada’s Milos Raonic.

Murray will be bidding to grab his second Wimbledon title after easing to his 11th grand slam final by dismissing Tomas Berdych in straight sets during his semi-final. Meanwhile, Raonic was pushed to his limits before battling past seven-time champion Roger Federer is a roller coaster five-set thriller.

Raonic, who will be playing in his first major final, promises to be a tough opponent for Murray. Throughout the tournament the Canadian has demonstrated great resistance by coming from the brink of defeat to winning against David Goffin and Federer. Moving freely around the court and coming to the net more often in his matches, the 25-year-old have improved significantly since his run to the semifinals at SW19 in 2014.

The world No.2 will be the first player to admit that his final opponent will be a tough test after their previous clash last month. At the Aegon Championships, Murray trailed by a set and a break in the final to Raonic before battling back to win a record fifth title at the tournament. The performance was a true testament to Murray’s mental and physical strength.

Learning from his mistakes at The Queen’s Club, Murray has said that his he returns in the match will be critical to the outcome of the match.

“There’s no doubt Milos Raonic will be a very tough final opponent, after all he beat Roger Federer on Centre Court to get there.” Murray wrote in his column for the BBC.
“Milos returns well and is good off the ground, but it’s pretty obvious that he has one of the best serves out there, so my returning will be key.”

In his encounter against Federer, a player regarded as one the greatest to ever play at Wimbledon, Raonic won 83% of his first service points with the help of 23 aces. To put this into perspective, Murray had a winning rate of 70% with the help of five aces during his match against Berdych.

“However well I return, opportunities will probably be few and far between on Sunday and I need to be ruthless.” Murray said about tackling the Raonic serve.

Regardless of the outcome of the final, history will be made at the tournament. Murray could become the eighth British man to win multiple Wimbledon titles and the first since Fred Perry in 1936. If Raonic wins, he will become the first Canadian man to ever win a grand slam title.

With so much at stake for both men. The final has the potential to be one of the greatest in recent time. The question is how will they both cope will the pressure?
