World No. 2 Andy Murray has qualified for the ATP World Tour Finals after staking a claim in the Wimbledon finals. This would be the British star’s ninth consecutive appearance at the year-ending Championships here.
Murray made the cut for the prestigious eight-man tournament following a straight-set conquest of Czech Republic’s Tomas Berdych in the semi-finals at All England Club. He, now, joins the top-ranked Novak Djokovic as the only other player to have qualified so far.
Having finished as the semi-finalist on three occasions previously, Murray will look to bag his first title this time around when the tournament begins from November 13 at the renowned O2 Arena in London.
“I love playing at The O2 in front of a home crowd. The support is always amazing and it’s a great tournament,” Murray told the tournament’s official website.
“I have had a good first half of the season and hope to continue that right the way through to London at the end of the year,” added the 29-year-old, who possesses a decent 41-7 in 2016.
Murray, who has won two titles so far this season in Rome and London, will attempt to win his first Grand Slam of the year and third overall when he squares-off against Canadian Milos Raonic in the Sunday’s title-clash. Murray leads Raonic 6-3 in nine career meetings.
