Pablo Cuevas has been fined $9000 for ‘unsportsmanlike conduct’ after embroiling himself in an infamous controversy at Wimbledon earlier this week.
Playing alongside Spain’s Marcel Granollers, Cuevas had threatened to urinate courtside after being denied a bathroom break by the umpire during the fifth set of their third round match against Adil Shamasdin and Jonathan Marray.
Soon thereafter, Cuevas and Granollers staged a sit-down protest following a code of violation for furiously smashing a ball into the crowd.
Granollers had to bear a hefty sum of $7500 for his own remonstration.
The spate of controversies continued even after the match when reports of Cuevas peeing inside a can during changeover surfaced over the internet, only to be later denied by the tournament officials.
The duo, now, joins the list of fellow tennis players to have been fined at this year’s Championships.
