Despite narrowly missing the French Open crown last month, Serena Williams’ confidence is undaunted heading into the prestigious Wimbledon Championships.
The top-ranked American went down in the Paris title-clash to No. 2 Garbine Muguruza of Spain, thereby failing to join Steffi Graf with 22 Grand Slam triumphs. This turned out to be her third consecutive failure at the majors, raising doubts concerning her inability to counter nerves.
However, Williams insists that there’s no pressure as she’s got nothing to prove at the All England Club.
“Honestly, I don’t feel any pressure. I feel good and confident,” the 34-year-old told in a press conference at Wimbledon. “I think it’s important to learn from every loss that you have.
“I think I usually do throughout my whole career. I have been able to learn a lot, to come off, to come back a much better player.”
Williams, the No. 1 seed, is scheduled to begin her quest for a record seventh title when she faces little-known Swiss Amra Sadikovic in the first round.
