Stanislas Wawrinka is still relishing winning the gold medal alongside fellow Swiss Roger Federer at the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
The duo had shared some terrific moments together en route the title triumph. They stunned the likes of Leander Paes and Mahesh Bhupathi and the Bryan Brothers without dropping a set all through, before overcoming the combination of Simon Aspelin and Thomas Johansson in a four-set final.
“I was extremely happy; being able to share that moment with Roger and celebrate as a team was amazing,” Wawrinka was quoted as saying by ITF Tennis. “Winning this medal was one of the happiest moments in my career so far. I’ve enjoyed it a lot and will never forget that.”
Wawrinka and Federer are slated to complete a hat-trick of Olympic appearances together after the Swiss Olympic Association confirmed the duo’s participation across all three disciplines for the next month’s mega-event.
The Games are slated to be held from August 6-14 at the Olympic Tennis Center in Rio de Janerio.
