It turned out to be an easy day in the office for Ana Ivanovic as she dropped just one game en route a 6-0 6-1 thrashing of Sara Sorribes Tormo to gallop into the quarter-finals of the Mallorca Open.
The third-seeded Serb hardly broke a sweat, converting five break points – without offering any opportunity on her own serve – in just 51 minutes to brush aside her 19-year-old Spanish nemesis.
Up next for Ivanovic stands a tricky test in Frenchwoman Caroline Garcia, the No. 6 seed, who got the better of Germany’s Anna-Lena Friedsam 6-4 7-6. Ivanovic trails Garcia 1-3 in career meetings.
No. 7 seed Laura Siegemund was the other German to bite the dust as she succumbed to a 7-6 3-6 7-5 defeat at the hands of little-known Paraguayan qualifier Veronica Cepede Royg.
The 135th-ranked Royg, who has progressed all the way from the qualifiers, has been slated to cross the swords with Belgian Kirsten Flipkens, who cruised for a 6-3 6-4 win over Monica Puig.
