Andy Murray has received backing from former tennis players Pat Cash and Greg Rusedski for rejoining hands with Coach Ivan Lendl ahead of the prestigious Wimbledon Championships.
Following a runner-up finish (lost to Novak Djokovic) at the recently-concluded French Open, the 29-year-old Murray decided to sign up for a second stint with Lendl as his coach.
Both Cash and Rusedski believe that this will only help the Brit to cause more trouble for the top-ranked Djokovic when the two potentially meet again at the upcoming Wimbledon.
“Maybe it will give Andy the extra percentage point of improvement he needs,” Rusedski was quoted as saying by Daily Mail.
He added: “I don’t think Ivan was going to come back unless he saw that Andy can win majors again. Andy is playing great already, and I think he has a good chance of beating Djokovic at Wimbledon.”
Cash, a former Wimbledon champion himself, opined that Lendl will help Murray to find new ways to upstage Djokovic’s game.
“Andy’s got better volleys than Novak; he’s probably got a better touch; so why is Novak consistently beating him? He’s got to come up with some answers,” said Cash.
Meanwhile, Murray is currently warming up for Wimbledon at the Aegon Championships in London, where he got off to a winning start after beating Nicolas Mahut on Tuesday.
