Jo-Wilfried Tsonga has pulled out of the ATP Estoril event starting Monday through injury, specifically to his knee according to website Tenis Portugal.
According to the Estoril tournament director, João Zilhão, Tsonga informed the tournament that even if he had started his matches on Thursday (as would be typical for the top seed), he would still “not be able to give 100 per cent”. Tsonga had reportedly praised the marketing of the event around the city of Lisbon, of which Estoril is a western suburb.
Fellow Frenchman Gilles Simon takes Tsonga’s place at the top of the draw.
