Former world No.1 Caroline Wozniacki has hired Petra Kvitova’s former coach, David Kotyza, in her latest bid to return back to the top.
Wozniacki currently has a win-loss of 8-7 on the tour this year with her best performance occurring at the start of the year when she reached semifinals of the Auckland Open. The 26-year-old is yet to beat a top-20 player this year after losing in three sets to Elina Svitolina at the Miami Open.
New coach Kotyza is known best for his seven-year period with Kvitova. During their time together, Kotyza helped her claim two Wimbledon and 15 WTA titles. The two separated shortly after this year’s Australian Open when Kvitova suffered an early exit. The separation was Kvitova’s own choice, who told the media that she wanted to go in a new direction.
Speaking about his new partnership with Idnes.cz, 48-year-old Kotyza said that he agreed to work with Wozniacki ‘to keep active’.
“At my age, 48, I want to keep active,” explained Kotyza.
“That’s why I accepted the offer of Piotr Wozniacki to work with her daughter “.
Recording Wozniacki’s absence of significant wins on the tour this year, Kotyza believes that she is currently not showing the potential that she has.
“I feel that the results of Caroline is currently not meeting her potential,” Kotyza said.
The confirmation of Kotyza is the latest of a series for Wozniacki. Besides her father, Piotr, she has previously worked with Steven Groeneveld, Ricardo Sanchez, Thomas Hoegsted and Arantxa Sanchez.
Speaking about Kotyza’s new job, Kvitova has taken to Twitter to wish them both luck.
I am happy for him. I wish them luck together! https://t.co/VRsVjCY9XK
