World No.2 Agnieszka Radwanska has pulled out of the Katowice Open due to a right shoulder injury.

Announcing her withdrawal during a special press briefing in Poland, Radwanska said that she is suffering from ‘chronic inflammation’ in her shoulder. The issue isn’t the first time that the 27-year-old has been troubled by problems with her shoulder. Last year she also pulled out of the Moscow Open due to a similar problem. More recently at the Miami Open, the world No.2 had heavy strapping on her right shoulder throughout the tournament.

I need more time to rest. It was quite an intense start to the season. Next year I will try to be at full strength and win this tournament,” Radwanska said during a special press conference.

According WTA Insider, Radwanska will travel to Warsaw to undergo some treatment on her shoulder. The issue comes after a successful start to the year by the former Wimbledon finalist. Radwanska has reached the semifinals or better in her first four tournaments of 2016. The impressive run came to an end at the Miami Open when she lost in the quarterfinals to Timea Bacsinszky.

The Polish player currently has 18 WTA titles, however, she is yet to win a trophy in her home country. Radwanska was the top seed in the Katowice Open in 2014 and 2015 but was knocked out in the semifinals on both occasions.

Radwanska was the only top-20 player scheduled to play at the WTA 250 event. Following her absence, world No.30 Anna Karolina Schmiedlova has been promoted to the top seed at the tournament.
