Former US Open champion Juan Martin Del Potro is set to shortly return to action after being sidelined with injury for almost a year.
The Argentine hasn’t played on the tour since his first round loss to Vasek Pospisil at the 2015 Miami Masters. Del Potro has been out of action due to a left wrist injury, which resulted in him undergoing another operation in June last year.
Despite the recent setbacks, Del Potro has documented his recovery extensively on his social media accounts. Currently the former world No.4 is training in Tandil, Argentina, making final final preparations before he returns to the tour. According to Argentine media sources, Del Potro is currently evaluating wildcard offers before deciding which tournament to begin his comeback at. It is understood that a final decision will be made ‘within days’.
The return of Del Potro will be welcomed by many familiar faces on the tour. One of them is world No.1 Novak Djokovic. During a recent interview with a ESPN Argentina, the Serbian said that he hopes to see the Argentine at the Miami Masters next month.
“I hope to see Del Potro in Miami, at least”. The world No.1 said during his interview.
