Felix Auger-Aliassime is into his first Roland Garros quarter-final after a 6-3 7-5 6-1 win over Alejandro Tabilo.

The Canadian cruised to a straight sets win in order to reach his first quarter-final in the French capital.

Tabilo never really took control of the match despite having some half-chances in the second set as he leaves Paris in the last 16.

Auger-Aliassime will now face tenth seed Flavio Cobolli for a place in the semi-finals.

The opening stages were tight as Tabilo brought some aggressive first serves and looked to dictate play on the forehand.

However, the Chilean was over-aggressive at times and couldn’t quite sustain a consistent level to threaten the Canadian.

On the other hand Auger-Aliassime was aggressive and proactive as he took a 4-1 lead, playing some sizzling tennis to break Tabilo.

There was some good tennis towards the end of the set from Tabilo, who recorded his best ever Grand Slam result in Paris this year.

It was the fourth seed though who closed out the opening set in 37 minutes.

In the second set, Tabilo played much more controlled tennis on return and forced the Canadian into uncomfortable positions in the court.

A set lead was enough for Auger-Aliassime to dip down a level but still remain competitive with the Chilean.

Most of the long service game was on Auger-Aliassime’s serve as he was forced to save break point in the eighth game.

The best players always find their best tennis when it matters most and Auger-Aliassime rose to the occasion in the eleventh game before finding some first serves at crucial moments to take a two set lead.

There was a huge reaction from Auger-Aliassime who then took control of proceedings as he broke on two occasions to secure his place in the last eight.

It was a tough loss to take for Tabilo who never really got to grips with the task ahead of him.

Meanwhile, Auger-Aliassime has bigger things in his sights and now faces Flavio Cobolli for a place in the semi-finals.

Cobolli has a surprising 2-0 head-to-head lead against the Canadian but they have never played on clay.
