Emma Raducanu believes there are plenty of positives in her game as she chases after her first title of any sort since 2021.
The Brit rapidly rose to prominence more than four years ago at the US Open when she stunned the Tour by coming through qualifying to win her first Grand Slam title at the age of 18. However, since then, Raducanu has failed to claim any more silverware and has been hampered by numerous injury setbacks that have sidelined her for weeks at a time.
In her most recent season, Raducanu has shown signs of getting back to the top with runs to the quarter-finals of a WTA 1000 event in Miami and a WTA 500 in London. She also reached the semi-finals of the Citi Open in Washington, as well as the third round in three out of her last four Grand Slams played.
“For me, it’s about stacking the good days. I’ve been putting in some good practices, and even if each practice isn’t as perfect as you want it to be, the consistency of it is the most important thing and that’s what really helped me last year,” the world No.29 explained ahead of her United Cup debut.
“I just hope to carry that on and enjoy my time, enjoy the process of what I’m doing, which right now I am.”
Raducanu has been working alongside coach Francisco Roig since last summer, who is best known for his collaboration with Rafael Nadal between 2005 and 2022. Roig then mentored Matteo Berrettini before pairing up with her.
“The thing I’m most proud of, especially in the last year, is just stacking good days consistently. I’ve been doing that a lot more, and can see the benefits of that,” she continued.
“Physically, I’ve also improved, I was able to play more matches and that just gives you more opportunities to get some points here and there and also have good weeks when you’re in a good run of momentum, to carry that through every four or five matches.
“My approach to playing. I’ve been a lot better, a lot more composed, but at the same time enjoying it a lot more again. That’s been a big win for me.”
Speaking about her team, Raducanu has hailed their support.
“It’s easy to think ahead about results, but the days are passing so quickly when you’re focused on your own session and the things that you can control,” she said.
“I have good people around me as well, so it makes things easier, it makes the days go by in a really fun way, but at the same time putting in a lot of good work.”
Due to the withdrawal of Jack Draper, Raducanu will play at the United Cup alongside Katie Swan, Billy Harris, Olivia Nicholls, Neal Skupski and Jan Choinski with Tim Henman acting as captain. Great Britain is in the same group as Greece and Japan.
